Enter Biometric Skin. This pale, low chroma, orange was developed in 2024, for 2026 emergence, at Color Marketing Group Asia Pacific meetings. All human skin colors fall into a red-orange range, with varying values, so this hue becomes a universal entry point to humanity.
There is a richness to touch; it’s personal and expressive, and very “real-world.” And touch is telling, with the warm flush of a cheek, a heartbeat just below the surface, or rugged texture from hard work, there is connection and understanding. But, not only human and animal skin, the skins of fruits and vegetables tell their own stories of ripeness, succulence, and even caution.
The merging of all of this is important for technology and the accompanying products. Enticing and intriguing, the “skin” needs to provide comfort and connection, as well as comfort and familiarity.
The surface of technology must convey a natural self and Biometric Skin is a hue with which to connect, especially when shown in matte, or low-sheen finishes. It is not foreign, or alien. It invites touch and security and a connection between the analog and digital world. It is an additional dimension experience that creates more authenticity in the virtual environment. A more realistic, dimensional experience reshapes how we interact with digital spaces and how natural those spaces feel.
